The Final Land

making of documentary nearly finished

The work on our making-of-documentary is as good as finished! It is now 1 hour and 45 minutes long - and it won't get any longer. It took about half a year to put together all the shots that were taken behind the scenes into a meaningful documentary. The most detailed insights are given into the construction of the spaceship, the shooting and the practical effects, but also topics such as script, props or sound design are covered.

Now, only the sound of the making of itself has to be mastered properly.

And then this movie to the movie will be a bonus feature for all crowdfunding supporters on their DVDs and Blurays. And for those, the menu backgrounds (with seas of stars) were already finished this morning...

Four awards from Miami for "The Final Land"! "Best Cinematography", "Best Set Design", "Best Practical Effects" and "Best Sci-Fi Feature Runner Up" (this is practically the silver main prize) - we are very happy and thank the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival 2020 for this special honor! It's really awesome that you were able to get virtualized on such short notice...

sci fi miami - live interview

Nice, long, virtual talk with Troy Bernier from the international Science Fiction Film Festival in Miami, Florida, about our film. Yesterday live via Youtube and Facebook, with live comments, questions and greetings - and now also available in preserved form, behind the following link:

And an advantage with practical effects: Many of them are easily at hand and pointable into a camera - like here just the spaceship model.

But we already know that there will be streaming on time. So the venue will be potentially any computer with internet access...

update: making of

Our making-of documentary, which is strictly speaking a long film essay, now lasts over an hour. And there's more to come. Roughly speaking, the first 30 minutes are about the whole pre-production, especially the construction of the ship, and the next 30 minutes are about the shooting. Now we are currently working on the transition to the post-production field. There you will get some good insights into model making, effects and various other things...

On the pictures on the right we see Milan (Novak), Torben (Adem) and the microphone of sound recordist Jan, very well involved in the picture... and a view of the editing project of the making-of as it looks like right now. Blue the video clips, green the sound clips, everything arranged as detailed as the film itself.

update: making of

These days there is always time to continue the work on our making-of documentary. It is currently almost 35 minutes long and so far deals mainly with the construction of the small and the large spaceship (i.e. model and scenery), the subject of crowdfuning, especially the production of the old crowdfunding teaser, and script development. The topic of filming is just starting right now - and that means that the making-of will be a much longer in the end. Marcel, who is editing the documentary, is very happy so far, and all those who have been watching it so far have found it very exciting...

thanks boston!

The Boston Sci-Fi Festival 2020 is over - and of course it was a very good decision to stay for a few more days after our screening. Being able to exchange ideas with filmmakers from the USA, New Zealand, Japan, Guatemala and Laos, is simply enriching (and these were just the immediate table neighbours in this one photo here)! Many thanks to Garen Daly and the whole Boston team, amongst them Leandra Sharron, Harry Lohr, Miriam Olken and Marta Calderon Quinones, for making these special days possible!
